The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed Associate Coach Jacques Cloutier and Assistant Coaches Martin Gelinas and Jamie Pringle to multi-year contracts.
This now completes the coaching staff with Head Coach Bob Hartley, Associate Coach Jacques Cloutier, Assistant Coaches Martin Gelinas and Jamie Pringle and Goaltender Coach Jordan Sigalet all under contract. Additionally, Skills Coach Domenic Pittis has been named Assistant Coach with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.
As members of Bob Hartley’s staff, the group helped lead the Flames to a 20 point improvement finishing with a 97 point season, a third place finish in the Pacific Division and saw Bob Hartley capture the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s best coach. The Flames concluded the regular season by defeating the Vancouver Canucks in Western Conference Quarter-finals before falling to the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Semi-finals.
Cloutier will begin his fourth season as the Flames Associate Coach. He has previously been a member of the NHL coaching staff of the Quebec Nordiques and Colorado Avalanche. During his time as a coach in Colorado, Cloutier helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 1996 and again on Head Coach Bob Hartley’s staff in 2001. He spent a total of 13 seasons as an assistant coach with the Avalanche concluding in 2009. Before joining the Flames, Cloutier was Associate Coach with the ZSC Lions in Zurich of the Swiss Elite League, capturing the championship in 2012.
Gelinas has completed his third season as an assistant coach with the Flames. Prior to joining the Flames coaching staff, he was the Nashville Predators Director of Player Development. Gelinas played two seasons with the Flames from 2002-2004 during which time he recorded 87 points in 157 games. In another 26 playoff games he scored eight goals and notched seven assists. He is best remembered with the Flames for scoring three playoff series-clinching goals in the same year, two of them in overtime, during the Flames 2004 Stanley Cup run. Retiring from the NHL following the 2007-08 season with the Nashville Predators, Gelinas played one more year in the Swiss National A League before his retirement. A former first round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Gelinas played 21 NHL seasons amassing 1273 games and 660 points. He is one of only a few players to have reached the Stanley Cup Finals with four different teams, winning the Cup in 1990 as a member of the Edmonton Oilers.
Jamie Pringle, a native of Picton, Ontario joined the Flames coaching staff in June, 2011 and is entering his fifth season with the Flames after three seasons as the Video Coach with the Florida Panthers. Pringle spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 season as the Video Coach for Hockey Canada. He was part of the staff for all international events winning gold at the 2007 IIHF World Championship and the 2007 and 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships. Pringle spent the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons as the Assistant Coach with the Kingston Frontenacs (OHL) after four seasons with the Belleville Bulls where he helped win an OHL title in 1999.
